It look pretty conventional X-bracing to me.

I bet that you back the bolt out with a wrench to loose the magnets hold

Would anyone know of a source for the ball vise that Kevin shows in his shop tour?

Michael: we're talking about the back bracing, not the top bracing...

Does anyone know at what separation these magnets will work? I can see several usefull applications if they would work at say 3/4" or so, like to replace a go-bar deck for bracing or maybe glueing on a bridge as well as doing countless clamping chores.John How38854.4933912037

depending on the denisty of material between them I would say they will work fairly strong at 1/2" ayway. I use them in crack repair and locate the inside one and hold it in place and neeky slide the out side one up to it and about an inch away it starts to want to go!

Mattia, spreaders come out very quickly,if you have built them to come apart,in two or three sections.I learned this from building with Tony Karol,This guy is another jig genius.   Ken

It's unanimous- Kevin Agrees Too!!

Billy,

Yep, that’s me. Thanks a million for sending me the link. I am almost never on the forums but it looks like a bunch of great guys there. And I am flattered of course that you folks enjoyed the fixture!

Please send my greetings to everyone there.

All Blessings,

Kevin

I was just going to call Kevin and ask if he would be able to drop a post here to explain the fixture, but Billy heard back from him already.

I just finished a rose inlay in a fingerboard that will be on an upcoming Ryan Cathedral model. It was the one that I posted the inlay photo tutorial on a little while ago.

I'm hoping to finish my 500th guitar this year...will it bring $27k+? I highly doubt it, but I'm building it to keep as a demo and for posterity,s sake. I'm sure it will be a novel thing for my kids to have one day.

Kevin's a great guy who has always been very friendly and helpful to all who look to him. A true gentleman and, I agree, a very ingenius and creative jig and fixture designer/maker.

Regards,
Kevin Gallagher/Omega GuitarsKevin Gallagher38855.710162037

Kevin is indeed a great guy. I talked to him seriously about a job right
before I went to work for Dana Bourgeois. I also talked to him for a while
at healdsburg (where he played and complimented my guitars ) and
he is a very nice man, with a genuine spirit.

He seemed like a pretty good guy when I emailed him, so I thought I'd contact him, again, and give him a chance to defend himself!

He builds a very nice guitar!
